Management Joins SmartWaySM Transport
Partnership
Company commits to helping logistics
industry reduce emissions and fuel consumption
SmartWay Transport is a voluntary partnership between various
freight industry sectors and the EPA that establishes incentives for fuel
efficiency improvements and greenhouse gas emissions reductions. By 2012,
this initiative aims to reduce between 33 and 66 million metric tons of carbon
dioxide (CO2) emissions and up to 200,000 tons of nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions per year. At the same time, the
initiative will result in fuel savings of up to 150 million barrels of oil
annually – the equivalent of removing 12 million cars from the road.
“We are excited to join the SmartWay Transport Partnership and look forward to doing
our part in helping the EPA reduce harmful emissions and increase fuel
efficiency,” said Scott Taylor, NLM founder and CEO. “When dealing with something as large as the
logistics industry, even small steps, such as idle reduction, go a long way in
substantially improving the environment.
It simply makes good business sense to save costs by consuming less gas.”
There are three primary
components of the SmartWay program: creating
partnerships, reducing unnecessary engine idling and increasing the efficiency
and use of rail and intermodal operations.
In becoming a SmartWay partner, NLM agrees to:
The EPA pledges technology
and other assistance in helping NLM achieve these goals.
